nadeko.net is a collection of privacy related services (and other non-privacy related services) hosted on South America, well, most of them. It started with the motivation of hosting privacy related services for South America people since there is a lot of people that host privacy related services on the United States and Europe, but since they are far from South America, they can be slow.
But currently, the main motivation that I have is because of the current Enshittification of online services, a lot of services have started to became worse and worse, places that used to be good, now abuse their users by applying ads, specially ads, platforms that censoring comments, content and people due to being in hands of investors or adding new features but that are only available to paid users, which is not bad, because you need to pay for everything, but as always, when a service is free, you are the product.
The best example of “service is free, you are the product” here is Google, a monopoly that profits over people’s data and sells it to data brokers, and data brokers, know everything about you; Google is not just ads, is mass surveillance, information that they store about what you do on your phone and in the internet using complex algorithms like browser/device fingerprinting (1), (2), which is a way to identify every device, even if you delete the classic browser cookies.
And even if you pay for the product of a service, you are still being tracked and profiled, if you pay for Youtube Premium, they will still track you, they will just give you youtube without ads.
This surveillance problems of problems not only exclusive to online services, they are also present on the operating system (Windows mostly) and even in your car!
I’m pretty young, but I hate the current state of what we “own” and the internet so that’s why I’m so passionate about giving privacy related services to people on the internet, so they can free themselves from the predatory and invisible hands of big tech. I recommend taking a short read at the articles linked above ;)
nadeko.net is only managed and hosted by one person (Fijxu, the one that wrote this), and the control of all services is never going to be managed by someone else, at least for now.
